The Keyboard ate it....gonna have to track down a replacement for that. Just what I wanna do, throw MORE time and money into this pit. At least now I’m not doing everything from a janky android tablet. Not having a slot for an SD card suuuuuucked.

HP laptop of some model?

Tell me the model number and I’ll link you to an appropriate keyboard on Ebay. Probably about $20.

Also, are you sure the keyboard is DEAD? Did you try taking it gently out and blowing out the slot it plugs into with canned air? Did something get spilled into it? Sometimes dust or whatever just gets into the ribbon cable slot they plug into and reseating the cable is enough to get everything working right again.

I’m sure I already found a spot selling replacements, but it’s an HP Flyer Red, model 15-f272w.

It wasn’t dead per say. The shift and number keys just don’t respond. For what I do that’s a death sentence either way, and because I’ve had to tear this damn thing down so much the keyboard must’ve gotten damaged since there’s a little nik on the wires.

Ah, I’ll let you search for your own then - you’ll prob not find anything different then I do. :)

My only real issue right now is upgrading the RAM. It can barely run Photoshop because of how much it lacks now, apparently. Not sure if RAM is something that’s model-specific or if one stick will work across all PCs/Laptops.

Desktops and laptops have two different standards, but within those standards, the pinouts have changed over time...DDR, DDR2, DDR3, DDR4. You’ll need to know what model your laptop takes and whether it has replaceable RAM (probably), although some have RAM soldered directly to the motherboard. If you can access the RAM slot(s), changing it out is easy....GETTING to it, on your laptop at least, is not...

A quick search in yours says it comes with DDR3 RAM and has 4GB of it, which is usable for everyday browsing, etc, but 8-16GB would be better.

If you did want to upgrade it, apparently you almost have to take the whole machine apart in your case as the RAM is on the backside of the motherboard...

Nah, there’s a little slot in the back that lets you right in. I’d prefer 16 gigs just to have alot of beef on my system, but holy expenses, Batman.

I have 8gb on my Win10 Core i7 desktop with an older version of Photoshop (CS4...quite old now, I guess), and it runs pretty well! I don’t do anything all that complicated though...

I got the latest Photoshop (CC). I used to be able to have like 15 photos on deck, though usually at the cost of performance. Now I can’t have more than 2 big-ish pics without it telling me I need more RAM. I upgraded to a SSD. Would that have anything to do with it?

Shouldn’t that I can think of...if anything, it should make Photoshop faster as SSDs work more quickly.

Make sure there is no extra useless crapware running in the background and check the settings in Photoshop. I know in CS4 that I have there is a ‘Performance’ tab under Preferences that lets me adjust on a slider how much RAM Photoshop is allowed to use out of the available RAM. (i.e. my PC has 8GB RAM, but only like 3600MB is available for Photoshop to use for itself most of of the time due to the few programs that I often have running in the background or open in the foreground along with whatever Windows pre-caches for it to use when needed). Long story short check there and see if you have a similar setting in the new Photoshop you’ve got to see if you can bump what Photoshop allocates itself up a little bit...even a few tens or hundreds of MB would be a bit of a help, eh?

Noted, thanks. Still, gonna ‘roid this thing up first chance I get. Clearly it could use it.

This reminds me of when I carried an external keyboard around for six months in college because my laptop’s keyboard broke. I got a lot of weird looks.

Sure - a stick of used DDR3 16GB shouldn’t be too expensive on Ebay...?

Does it only have one slot?
